Painting the Town Red!!

Tonight we did not go on our fishing and paddling outing as it was a bit cool... so we got on with preparing the decorations  for Norjam Staff Cafe ... they had to be painted....Red?!$¥#? so we're sorry if you child was a bit dirty ...well painty!

My doesn't time fly?  ...... its already 1st of July

Cubs had a damp hike last Tuesday around Earlham Park, about 3 miles.

They collected 10 leaves each and identified and mounted them,

THIS WEEK WE HAD JILL COME AND TALK TO US ABOUT BATS
WE HAVE A BAT DETECTOR LEFT OVERNIGHT TO DETECT THEM
AS PART OF A NATIONWIDE BAT SURVEY.
Then after a flying frenzy of Bat Planes out of paper
we tried our teamwork game
DOUBLE SKIS!
Challenging to say the least!

What is a 

Wolfling?

Well that's the name given to Cub-scouts in Germany.

Our friends in Hohenlimburg have sent us scouting greetings

which we are pleased to receive

and

their leaders along with some Scouts will be visiting NORJAM this summer

The Challenge tonight was to make the dough, skewer the Dampers , light the fire

Cub Camp Over 2014 "The Normans are Coming"

         The Cubs arrived at 12.00 on Saturday and after registration they settled into their tents for the camp. After packed lunches, bow making was begun, helped by Chris and Ashley, Matthew and Dom.

          Later we prepared pizzas for dinner and started our Bayeux Tapestry. After dinner we hiked to Trowse Green for fun on the park and football. We hiked back in the dark and enjoyed hot chocolate around the campfire before 'lights out' at 10.30pm

          It was a very cold night with ice on the tents from 2.00am to 7.00am.

          Everyone enjoyed a hot drink in the morning, with cereal and bacon 'sarnies' then we prepared sandwiches for lunch. We marched to St Johns Church where we renewed our promise and after enjoy some birthday cake for a local man Peter Battle's 94th birthday.

         We went to Theobald  Rd park for a bit of fun and then to Cooper's Camp for games and lunch. after which we rowed back to HQ.

         Alex Saunders ( Charles' nephew and a chef ) arrived to help prepare our individual 'Soldiers Dinners' which included rice, potato, carrot, onion and a beefburger all cooked in a tin foil tray. mmmmmmm ........ delicious! followed by chocolate roll and chocolate sauce .......lovely!

         Camp fire songs were sung around the fire and after Hot Chocolate and a short Horrid Henry film all the cubs were desperate to go to bed!

         Monday dawned fine and sunny and very warm with scrambled eggs for breakfast. Shaun, our Explorer Leader, arrived to run a climbing ( castle besieging ) activity, ably assisted by Dom, with some cubs

                                                                                                                      whilst others practiced archery with their bows and enjoyed pillow fighting with Matthew. Charles and Ali took the tents down and then prepared the Hot Dogs for lunch.

         Parents arrived at 14.00 for the closing ceremony and presentations and the cubs left for home at 14.30, just leaving a bit more clearing up to be done before the leaders were able to go home and collapse!

A Great Camp over if a little chilly!

Well here we are in the Summer term. Last week we hiked down to Coopers Camp for an Easter Egg Hunt and Sausage Sizzle, sorry no pictures but you can imagine the fun we had, real chocolate eggs for prizes and cub hot dogs sausages in a slice of bread! delicious.

This week we were really lucky with the weather so we got down to some outdoor scouting

 We built a camp seat

 A big Teepee

 A small Teepee

 We chopped wood

 Another small teepee

 Two big Tripods

A bivouac

and we lit 3 fires successfully!

Dragon Hunting in Norwich

Today was our half term outing and instead of a hike in the country, because the paths were flooded we went on a Dragon Hunt in the City

We met at The Forum and went to see a film

The off to Jarrolds where we searched for clues to a Dragons name

and entered a competition

Next we went to The Playhouse

and saw an exhibition of Dragon Sculptures

We hiked to the Cathedral

Had our Picnic lunch

Searched for Dragons everywhere and found about 16!

Then we did some craft

Finally we hiked to the Castle

and enjoyed a look round and made an orgami boot too!

as well as finding the Snap Dragon

We had a great time 

Global Challenge badge

Cubs are working for their Global Challenge Badge this term

we have been looking at technologies and how they affect the world we live in.

Last week each Six had a topic, Computer, Bicycle, Light, Trains and they presented their info to the other sixes.

This week we built models using an older technology wood & string!!

then we collected a present before going home.
